Generals Sweep Pioneers
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals swept the two game opening series against the Fort Vancouver Pioneers this weekend. The Generals fell behind in the first period of both games, but they scratched and clawed their way back to come away from the weekend with two huge wins. “The Pioneers are a really solid team,” Head Coach Robert Freeland stated. “Our guys showed a lot of discipline and character to come back against a team of that caliber.”
The Generals won 4-3 on Friday, with Garrett Bossert, Brad Meyers, Michael Frei, and local boy Cameron Zimick all scoring goals. Bossert scored the franchise’s first goal, and Zimick scored the first game winner. On Saturday, the Generals upset Fort Vancouver, again, with a 3-1 victory. Stephen Leypoldt, Ben Tikka, and Bossert had the goals for the Generals on Saturday. “The Pioneers are favored to be a serious contender for the league championship,” Coach Freeland stated. “For us, as an expansion team, to come out and beat them in our first two games says a lot about the heart, and never-say-die attitude of our players.”
The Eugene Generals next opponent is the Crusaders of Kent. The Generals will hop on the bus on Friday for their first road series of the season. Kent hosted the Puget Sound Tomahawks last night, and were defeated 7-0. For more information on the Eugene Generals Opening Weekend please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
