Player Spotlight- #10 Kyler Zimick
by Chris Bilder, Generals Staff Writer
Eugene, OR-
Chris Bilder: How has the season gone for you so far?
Kyler Zimick: So far pretty good. I have a few more penalty minutes than I wish I had, but for the most part it’s going pretty good.
CB: You were drafted by the River City Jaguars, but decided to play for the Generals. What made you want to play in Eugene?
KZ: It was closer to home, and the organization down here is a lot better than what is up there in River City. I’m not too fond of the coach in River City so I thought I’d give Eugene a shot.
CB: How did it feel to score against the Jaguars last weekend?
KZ: It felt awesome. I knew I had something against them that I could use against them later. It ended a long goalless streak for me, and I knew a lot of people there.
CB: Your brother Cameron was on the inaugural Generals team. How does it feel to carry on the Zimick legacy for the Generals?
KZ: It’s tough. Cameron and I talk a lot about when he played here. He always tells me that I need to be the best at everything I do because he thought he was. He says I need to put a few more goals in, but its going pretty good.
CB: You have three goals, four assists and lead the team with 183 hits in eighteen games with the Generals this season. Are you satisfied with your production?
KZ: The hitting, yes. I wish I would put up a few more points, but I’m not too disappointed in that area.
CB: You lead the league in penalty minutes with 104. Is that a stat you want to cut back on at all?
KZ: Yes, but I don’t want to lose that edge to my game. If penalties happen they happen, but I’m not going to stop playing with grit.
CB: Do you pride yourself in protecting your teammates and being an “enforcer”?
KZ: Yes. It feels pretty good because not too many people want to mess with me, and that’s something that I don’t have to worry about anymore.
CB: You have yet to lose a fight in NORPAC. What has been your favorite fight this season?
KZ: I think my favorite fight this season is in Coeur d’Alene when I fought Guiseppe Dippolito. I bloodied him up pretty bad, and for once it lasted more than ten seconds. I think I proved to the team that I could stay on my feet, and destroy people.
CB: What are your goals for the season?
KZ: To be strong enough to fight somebody from Seattle and win, and not get my face busted up when I do.
CB: Where do you see yourself next season?
KZ: Coach says the penalty box. I’d like to see myself move up to a higher level, but if not I’ll always come back to Eugene to play for the Generals.
