Player Spotlight- #31 Dylan Woodring
by Chris Bilder, Generals Staff Writer

Eugene, OR-

Chris Bilder: Last season you played with the Alaska Avalanche of the NAHL. What is the biggest difference between the NAHL and NORPAC?

Dylan Woodring: I would have to say the speed of the game is the biggest difference. You just have to make your decisions quicker, and if you don’t the other team is going to capitalize.

CB: This is your fourth year of Junior hockey. What has been your favorite season and why?

DW: Probably the year before I got called up to the Alexandria Blizzard [NAHL] in Eugene, so my second year of Juniors. I was playing really well here, and I played well in Alexandria when I was there. I was really excited to get called up, and we got to go to Nationals that year, and that is the only time I’ve been to Nationals.

CB: What has been your favorite Junior hockey moment?

DW: Probably getting the call to go up to Alexandria. My goal was to make the jump to the NAHL during the summer, but I wasn’t able to. So when I got the call to go up during the season it was a great feeling.

CB: Right now you are 2nd in NORPAC with a 14-1 record, 3rd in NORPAC with 2 shutouts, 6th in NORPAC with a 2.75 GAA and 4th in NORPAC with a .917 SV%. Are you satisfied with your statistics?

DW: Well I don’t know, not really. I think I can always do better. I want my SV% to go up and my GAA to go down.

CB: You lead the league for goaltenders with 6 points on the season. What about your game allows you to pick up points from your position?

DW: More just my patience with the puck. I’ve developed it over the last year and a half I believe. I go out and wait until something opens up to move the puck. That is when I feel I do my best is when I’m patient with the puck. I wait until the last possible moment to move the puck.

CB: What would your reaction be to getting a goal this season?

DW: I would be pumped! It has always been my goal to get a goal, and I think its every goalie’s, that plays the puck, dream to get a goal.

CB: You tied and broke the Generals all-time shutout record this season with 4 career shutouts (Kevin Aslett held the record at 3), and you recently broke the Generals all-time wins record with 37 (Kevin Aslett held the record at 36). How do you feel about breaking those records?

DW: I don’t know. Its fine, but it doesn’t really matter to me. As long as I’m playing well and the team is playing well, that is all that really matters to me.

CB: What are your goals for the rest of the season?

DW: To get a goal, and I’d like to get an assist against Seattle and Tri-City so I can have a point against every team. My main goal is to go to Nationals. I went to Nationals with Alexandria, but I want that experience with this team.

CB: What are your plans for next season?

DW: Go to college somewhere. Right now I have a couple of schools looking at me, right now more of the schools back East are my options.

CB: What do the Generals have to do this weekend to beat Puget Sound and River City?

DW: We have to not look into Christmas break. I know every team says that, but when I was here a couple of years ago we got killed right before the break. We just have to stay focused, and if we stay focused we’ll have a chance.
