Player Spotlight- #23 Eric Watters
by Chris Bilder, Generals Staff Writer

Eugene, OR- Eric Watters is a 5-9, 168 lb, 19 year old forward from Phoenix, AZ. A pleasant surprise coming out of Generals 2008 Main Camp, Watters has established himself as a significant scoring threat on the power play. Watters is currently tied for fourth in the league in goals, and tied for first in the league in power play goals.

Chris Bilder: It’s been more than a month since you’ve been in Eugene, and you’ve just had your first four Eugene Generals home games. How do you like Eugene, and what do you think about the Generals fans?

Eric Watters: It’s great actually. All the fans are awesome, and most have them have been really nice so far.

CB: You played for the Midget AA Phoenix Polar Bears last year. How would you compare the hockey you’re playing now to the hockey you played last year?

EW: It’s definitely better than what I was playing last year. The game is a lot faster, and the players are more skilled. Overall the game-play is a lot faster.

CB: You’re tied for fourth in the league in goals, and are tied for the league lead in power play goals. Did you expect to be in this position before the season?

EW: I did not actually. I just work at it, and I get the goals when I can.

CB: How would you rate your play thus far this season?

EW: Average so far. Hopefully I’ll play better in the next few games, and keep it going throughout the season.

CB: You have your first road trip this weekend. What does the team have to do to win in Puget Sound?

EW: We really have to play by our systems. We have to stick to our defensive zone, and if the games are anything like last weekend our special teams will have to bee good too.

CB: What do you expect from yourself this weekend?

EW: Hard work, and capitalize on all of the chances I get.

CB: What are your personal goals for the season?

EW: The main thing would be to move up to the next level this year or next year, and keep improving each game.

CB: Describe the perfect season for you and the team.

EW: Be going to the playoffs, winning playoffs and going to Nationals.

CB: What are your plans for next season?

EW: Next season I would like to be in the NAHL, or any level above Tier-III Juniors would be great.

CB: Where do you plan on playing two years from now?

EW: Wherever I can get, really. Ideally I would play in college at the D I level. If I can’t play D I, I would love to play D III.
