Player Spotlight- #12 Tyler Poulsen
by Chris Bilder, Generals Staff Writer
Eugene, OR-
Chris Bilder: This is your second season with the Generals. How would you compare this season to last season?
Tyler Poulsen: This season is faster for me. I’m more competitive, and I work harder.
CB: You recently came back from a pretty major injury. How tough is it to sit in the stands and watch your team on the ice?
TP: Its pretty rough because I always want to be out there to help my team succeed.
CB: Did the time off give you a hunger for the game that you didn’t have before?
TP: Yes, definitely. I feel more amped to be on the ice. I don’t take being on the ice for granted anymore. I love every minute I’m out there.
CB: Describe the differences in your role on the team from last season to this season.
TP: I am more experienced than some of my line-mates, and I help them out when they’re out on the ice. And I give them pointers. My role last season was to keep up with the game speed, and get used to playing with better players.
CB: You started the season in the NAHL. What are your plans for next season?
TP: I’m looking to move up to the BCHL where it is more competitive than the NAHL, and can definitely push me up to even higher levels.
CB: What are the major differences between NORPAC and the NAHL?
TP: The major differences are mainly the speed of the game, quicker passes and harder hitting.
CB: You have 10 goals and 19 assists in 20 games. Are you satisfied with your point production?
TP: Yes I am, because I have more points than games played, and I still have plenty of games to increase my point production.
CB: What are your goals for the rest of the season?
TP: Once, again I want to get bigger, stronger and faster. Mainly I want to work on getting my legs bigger. On the ice I want to control myself in the defensive zone, and stay disciplined in my positional play.
CB: The playoffs start next week. What is it about this team that makes you believe that the playoffs will go differently from last season?
TP: We have kids that work harder than last season, and the veterans on this team know what happened last season, and we won’t let that happen again.
CB: What does the team need to do to get out of the first round?
TP: We need to play our systems, and stay disciplined, and leave everything on the ice because that’s what we’ve worked for all season.
