Player Spotlight Sean Park

Eugene, Or – Sean Park left his AAA team in Centennial, Co two seasons ago to play for the Generals and his talent immediately made an impact on the team’s play. In his debut season with the Generals he contributed 10 goals and 20 assists. Park, a 17-year-old forward originally from Torrance, CA, all ready has nine goals so far this 2010/2011 season.

Park says the biggest difference between the AAA level of hockey and the Junior level that he’s at now is the increased pace that players have to make decisions. “You have to think quicker. It’s not just the speed of the other players. You have to make a good, fast decision with the puck.”

While the Generals have had many impressive wins since Park has joined the squad, he says his most memorable experience was the camping trip the team took at the beginning of the 2010/2011 season.

As the season continues, Park, who is 5’10’’, 162 lb and describes himself as an “average-size forward”, plans to hit the weight room, get bigger, and eventually move up to the NAHL. But right now, Park is looking ahead only into this 2010/2011 season.

Over the course of the remainder of the season Park is confident that the Generals will continue to improve. “Our record is definitely not displaying how good we are,” he says. “I think we’ll do a lot better and our record will get a lot better as the season progresses.”

The Generals have a tough weekend ahead as Park and the Generals face off against Seattle on both Thursday and Friday. The Generals haven’t beaten the Totems this season but Park says they are not approaching these games any different then they would any others.

“Seattle is a good team, but we are almost there in beating them,” Park says. “We just have to get the mental focus down and that’s not something we can practice for.”
