Player Spotlight- #5 Sean O'Connor
by Chris Bilder, Generals Staff Writer
Eugene, OR- Sean O'Connor has returned to the Eugene Generals for his second season, and his last of Junior hockey. O'Connor is a gritty, soft-handed, power forward who has the potential to change a game. Two games into the season, O'Connor is second in NORPAC in assists (5) and fifth in NORPAC in points (5). OC, as his teammates call him, talks about the Generals, his goals for the season and of all things his hair.
Chris Bilder: How do you think the first two games have gone for you and the team?
Sean O'Connor: I think they’ve gone well. We’ve played as a team pretty well, but I expect us to get better. I think I did pretty good for my first game in ten months, but I wish I would have put up some more points.
CB: You’re fifth in points in the league right now. Do you have a goal for yourself in terms of where you want to stand at the end of the season?
SO: I would like to stay in at least the top ten.
CB: You decided to take some time off last season. What made you want to come back to the Generals?
SO: It’s a great organization, and I knew a lot of people in Eugene.
CB: How would you compare this year’s team to last year’s team?
SO: It’s a lot younger, and the whole team gets together where as last year there were a lot of clicks. This year’s team is also a lot more motivated.
CB: How do you like playing on the same line as Michael Frei?
SO: It’s always good playing with Frei. He knows how to put the puck in the net.
CB: You have some pretty tough games coming up against Puget Sound this weekend without Michael Frei, and possibly without Michael Schlagel for the second week in a row. What do you expect out of this weekend?
SO: I expect a lot of third and fourth line players to step it up, and help the rest of the team.
CB: What are your personal goals for this weekend?
SO: Average at least two points per game.
CB: What are your personal goals for this season?
SO: I’d like to score at least twenty goals, and be in the top ten in points.
CB: What are your plans for next year?
SO: I want to make a D III team.
CB: You seem to have a different hair, or facial hair, style every week. Is there a specific reason why you choose to constantly mess with your hair?
SO: Not at all, I just want to keep the team laughing.
