Player Spotlight- #25 Joe Myers
by Chris Bilder, Generals Staff Writer

Eugene, OR-

Chris Bilder: This is your fourth year with the Generals. What has been your most memorable moment with the team?

Joe Myers: My most memorable moment while with the team was going to our coach Bobby Freeland’s funeral during the first off-season, and playing in the First Annual Coach Bobby Skate.

CB: What is the one thing you will miss the most about being with the team?

JM: All the stuff that happens off the ice, like in the locker room, and all of the stories.

CB: What is the one thing you will not miss about being with the team?

JM: Dryland, and waking up really early to go to practice.

CB: What is one thing you will take with you from your time here in Eugene?

JM: Respect for other people, and don’t take anything for granted.

CB: Compare yourself as a hockey player from your first season with the Generals to this season.

JM: I was fat and slow and didn’t know as much about hockey as I thought I did in the first season, and I had a fro. I’m a lot smarter with the puck, and I communicate a lot better now. I also try to help out the younger guys, because when I was young the older guys helped me out a lot.

CB: You have ten goals and twenty-three assists this season. Prior to this season your highest point total was 19. What has allowed you to put up more points this season?

JM: Having a lot better passing and a lot better handle on the puck. I also make smarter choices this season.

CB: Describe your role on the team.

JM: I’m more of a leader. So, when I lead the kids who will be leaders next season will know what to do. I’m disciplined, but it hasn’t really shown the last few games.

CB: What are the differences between this season’s team and any previous season’s teams?

JM: There’s a lot more chemistry, and a lot more of the guys hang out together. We are a very close team. We’re like a family. We may not all like each other, but we treat each other with respect.

CB: You spent some time last season playing on the East Coast, but decided to come back to the Generals. Why did you decide to come back?

JM: Everything in Eugene was better than back there. I don’t want to get into specifics, but there were a lot of things going on over there that don’t happen in Eugene.

CB: What are your plans for next season?

JM: Hopefully go to college, and if that doesn’t happen I want to coach youth hockey or help youth teams progress by showing them what I’ve learned over the years.
