Player Spotlight- #17 Peter Mingus
by Chris Bilder, Generals Staff Writer
Eugene, OR-
Chris Bilder: You have 22 points in 33 games this season, which puts you in 8th on the team and second among rookies in scoring. Did you expect to have this much scoring output this season?
Peter Mingus: Actually, I was expecting a little more. I’m still happy with the amount of points I’ve gotten though.
CB: What has allowed you to put up the numbers you’ve put up this season?
PM: I guess using my speed, and having good line-mates helps.
CB: Are you satisfied with your point production this season?
PM: For the most part yes. I would like to get some more, but for the most part I am.
CB: What are your personal goals for the rest of the season?
PM: To start being more physical, and to start scoring more.
CB: You put in a lot of work off the ice last summer. How do you think your summer workout schedule with Coach Miller helped you this season?
PM: It really put me in shape at the start of the year, and that gave me an advantage. Its carried me along all season, and it really has given me an advantage.
CB: You were a practice player with the Generals last year, but got to play in two games. You scored on your first shift in a Junior hockey game. Did you think all your points would come that easy?
PM: No. Not that easy, but I was expecting to get a lot. I did know that I would have to work hard for them.
CB: What was going through your head when you scored that first goal?
PM: I was really psyched to score that goal, and that goal made me even more excited for this season. It was way more exciting to score in Junior hockey rather than youth.
CB: You are one of five players on the team from Eugene this season. What does it mean to you to play in front of your hometown fans?
PM: It means a lot because I’m from Eugene, and I’m reppin’ for my town. It feels good to finally play in my home town. I think this is my first year playing in my hometown in about six years ago in Texas.
CB: What is the best part about playing in your hometown?
PM: Being close to all of my friends and family. Its definitely more comfortable to play in my hometown.
CB: What does the team need to do to beat Seattle and Tri-City this weekend?
PM: We’re going to need to stay disciplined against Seattle for sure, and we need to be quick with the puck. We need to do the same thing against Tri-City. We need to play physical and bring the game to them.
