Player Spotlight- #3 Trent McKee
by Chris Bilder, Generals Staff Writer

Eugene, OR- Generals assistant captain Trent McKee is the second leading scorer among defensemen in NORPAC. He is also leading the Generals with 304 hits, and could break the Generals hit record and defensive scoring record in the same season.

Chris Bilder: You’ve put up almost twice as many points this season than you did last season. What has been the difference?

Trent McKee: The difference between this season and last season is that I have a lot better vision of the ice, and I feel as if I can control the play a lot more when I have control of the puck.

CB: How does it feel to be the second leading defensemen scorer in NORPAC?

TM: It’s a pretty good feeling; I must say. It feels a lot better than what I had going for me last year.

CB: What is one strength that this team has that last year’s team didn’t have?

TM: I think personally that this year’s team has better work ethic. Last year we worked hard, but sometimes it was on and off. With this years team everyone is always working, and showing that they want to be out there.

CB: What is one strength that last year’s team had that this team doesn’t have?

TM: More chemistry I would think. Also, last years team had a lot more experience seeing as over half the team had previous Junior hockey experience.

CB: What is your favorite part of your game?

TM: I would have to say hitting is my favorite part of the game. I love the reaction I get out of the crowd when I get a big hit, and I love knowing that a player will think twice before going into a corner with me.

CB: What is your favorite moment on the ice this season?

TM: My favorite moment on the ice this season would be when I got the OT game winner against the Puget Sound.

CB: Did you feel more pressure as a defenseman when Woodring got called up?

TM: No, I feel that we had a strong enough defensive core that we would be able to handle it.

CB: Do you think this team has what it takes to get to the National Tournament in Boston?

TM: Yes, maybe with a couple changes we can make it.

CB: What do you want to be next year at this time?

TM: I haven’t really thought that much about next year. Maybe start up school…..again.

CB: What do the Generals have to do to win this weekend?

TM: If we bust our hump I think we should be able to get it done.
