Player Spotlight Kirby Carlson
Eugene, Or – Peter Martin started playing hockey when he was 11 years old land gives most of the credit for him developing into the defenseman that he is today to both his Midget level hockey coach and the Eugene Generals. He says the three seasons he spent with his youth hockey coach back in Colorado gave him the most of the tools that he needed to be successful with the Generals.
However, in just one season with the Generals Martin says he’s seen his skills improve more than ever. “I’ve developed into a much more solid passer this year since being in Eugene,” Martin says. “Also, my skating has improved a lot from being on the ice so much.”
Despite the progress he’s made so far in his hockey career he’s still working to improve certain aspects of his game. “I’m definitely working to improve my shot,” said Martin who also said the game that he scored two goals, his only goals of the season, was easily his most memorable experience this season.
Martin plans to improve both his shot as well as his overall vision on the ice during the offseason where he plans to take every opportunity to get on the ice.
Martin, whose favorite hockey player is the Colorado Avalanche’s Adam Foote, another physical defenseman, has hopes to eventually college hockey but right now he is focused on the remainder of the Generals season. The right-hander is optimistic about the Generals playoff matchups. “We’ve come a long way since our first weekend of games in September,” points our Martin. “We can be successful in playoffs as long as we work hard. As long as we do that we can beat any team with our speed and our overall effort. I know we will be a threat in the playoffs.”
