Player Spotlight- #25 Brad Main
by Daniel Bell, Generals Staff Writer
Eugene, OR- Victoria, British Columbia native Brad Main returns, for his second season with the Generals, where he was the team MVP with 39 goals 44 assists for 83 points last season. The Generals went through a lot of changes this offseason; including a new coaching staff.
"The biggest adjustment early on for the team is adjusting to the coaching style of our new Head Coach Chuck Kennedy, " Main explained.
The Generals are 4-4 to start the season and are improving in every game they have played. Last weekend, the Generals let the Totems go up 4-0 before playing better in the second and third periods. Main knows, that loss will help his team as the season progresses.
"The Seattle game showed the team, that if we play our game we can compete with the best team in our division," Main said. "It shows the team after a tough loss that we are narrowing the gap between us and Seattle."
The Generals host the River City Jaguars, in the first of two games at home, this weekend. The Generals host their Sixth Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Friday. The team will auction off their pink jerseys to raise money for breast cancer research.
"The Breast Cancer Awareness Night Game is important for us as a team because we know after the game, the pink jerseys will be supporting breast cancer research," Main stated. "A lot of the players know someone personally that have been affect by breast cancer, and we want show our support to fans and the community members who have been affected."
The Generals last year were 38-10 and were swept in the Pacific Division Finals against the Totems. This season the Generals are looking to develop all their players so when February comes the team will be ready for the postseason. Main knows his job, as one of the co-captains is to help make sure the young players grow on and off the ice, as hockey players and individuals.
"My goals as one of the leaders of this years team, is to lead the team to victory and to make sure that the younger players improve every day," Main said.
The Generals have made changes to their off ice conditioning program this season to make sure that their stamina level is their at the end of the season. "We are not lifting as much as we did last year, but we are doing more cardio to help us be conditioned for the end of the season," Main explains. "I think weight lifting is more of a summer workout to help you prepare for the season."
Generals fans should look for Brad Main to be put up points for the Generals this year. They should also know he is working hard to make sure the team is prepared every day both on and off the ice.
