by Chris Bilder, Generals Staff Writer
Eugene, OR- CJ Henley is a 5-11 180 lb defenseman from Kenai, AK. Henley is the only 20 year old on the Generals, and has recently come to the team from the Kenai River Brown Bears. In eight games with the Generals Henley has eleven points, two of which are shorthanded goals, one is a powerplay goal and two are game-winning goals.
Chris Bilder: How did it feel to play with your hometown team?
CJ Henley: It was exciting to playing in front of the hometown crowd again.
CB: You tried to come to the Generals last season, but had some trouble with getting a release from Hockey Canada. What are your feelings on being with the Generals now?
CH: I’m glad that everything worked out this year because I like playing here and they have welcomed me with open arms.
CB: What is the biggest difference between the NAHL and NORPAC?
CH: I would have to say the quickness of the players, and the transition of the game.
CB: As a 20 year old you are the oldest defenseman on the team. Do you feel added pressure to be a leader because of your age?
CH: No not really because we have a solid defensive core this year so I think the pressure is spread out a bit.
CB: What are your plans for next season?
CH: I would like to play Division III college hockey.
CB: You have four goals on the season, two of which are shorthanded and one powerplay. What are the skills you possess that make you successful on special teams?
CH: I guess just working hard and having my head up to see the ice.
CB: In eight games with the Generals you already have two game winning goals. Do you think you perform better when the game is on the line?
CH: I’m not really sure. I just try to work hard the whole game and sometimes the goal you score happens to be a game winner.
CB: What do you bring to the table that makes the Generals a better team?
CH: Experience in junior hockey.
CB: What are your goals for the rest of the season?
CH: To help the team make a run for the National Tournament.
CB: Do you think this team has what it takes to win the Pacific Division and earn the bid to the National Tournament?
CH: Yes, we definitely have a great chance to make it there.
