Player Spotlight- #9 Michael Frei
by Chris Bilder, Generals Staff Writer
Eugene, OR- This will be Michael Frei's fourth season with the Eugene Generals, but this will be the first season he has had the responsibility of captain. The 5-10 185 lb forward from Zurich, SUI is looking to make his last year his best year. He talks about his teammates, being named captain and the Eugene Generals fans.
Chris Bilder: This is now your fourth season with the Generals. How would you compare this team with the other three Generals teams you’ve been on?
Michael Frei: This team is a lot smaller and younger, but they all have great work ethics and they’re here for the right reasons.
CB: What does it mean to be named captain of the Generals?
MF: It’s an honor, and I’m up for the challenge.
CB: You hold the Generals record in 22 statistical categories. What does that mean to you?
MF: I feel great about it, and I’m ready to break some more.
CB: What is the most important statistical category to you, and why?
MF: I would say short handed goals because it is a great feeling to score when the team is a man down.
CB: What are your personal goals for the season?
MF: Averaging three points a game, and be a leader on the team.
CB: What are your goals for the team this season?
MF: To get back to the Cascade Cup Finals.
CB: What would be your perfect season?
MF: Win the scoring title, and go to Nationals.
CB: Do you consider yourself a fan favorite?
MF: I don’t know. I’m probably a fan favorite because this is my going to be my fourth year with the Generals, and I’ve put up quite a few points. I love the fans in Eugene, and I work as hard as I can out on the ice to get them a win.
CB: What has been your favorite moment in your Generals career?
MF: Beating Ft. Vancouver in the Generals very first home game. They traded me to the Generals before the start of the 2005/06 season, and beating them in the first game of the season, and then sweeping that opening weekend, was a great feeling.
CB: What are your plans for next year?
MF: Going to a D I college, and getting a scholarship to play hockey.
