Player Spotlight- #7 Blake Bishop
by Chris Bilder, Generals Staff Writer
Eugene, OR-
Chris Bilder: The team is currently tied for first place in the division with 14 games to play. What does the team need to do to be in first when the Regular Season ends?
Blake Bishop: We need to keep playing our game, and start capitalizing on the opportunities we get.
CB: How important is it to be in first place by the time the playoffs roll around?
BB: Very, because that means we get to play the fourth place team, and Seattle will have to play the third place team.
CB: The Generals play the Puget Sound Tomahawks, who just swept the first place Seattle Totems, this weekend. What does the team need to do to come away with two wins?
BB: We need to play a physical game, and we need to work on our defensive zone.
CB: You’ve had at least one point in 13 of the last 17 games, and you’ve had seven multiple point games in that span. To what can you attribute your recent point production?
BB: Hard work. Everything’s just kind of going my way.
CB: Right now you are tied for first among defensemen in scoring on the team with 13 goals and 15 assists, and you’re tied for sixth among defensemen in scoring in NORPAC. Did you expect to be in this position when the season started?
BB: Not at all. I’ve done way better than I thought I would. I have a good team supporting me.
CB: Where do you want to be, in terms of points, at the end of the season?
BB: My goal at the beginning of the season was 30, and I didn’t think that was very realistic so anything over 30 is icing on the cake.
CB: Describe your experience in Eugene so far.
BB: It’s been a blast. All of the guys are really great. My roommates are awesome, and I love my billet house and billet family. I have no complaints.
CB: What has been your favorite moment this season?
BB: When [John] Mullin face-planted in practice when he was just standing there on the ice. I laugh just thinking about it.
CB: What has it been like to be an assistant captain in your first season with the team?
BB: It’s an honor. It never really happens, so its really cool that I got picked to wear the “A”.
CB: Where do you see yourself next season?
BB: Hopefully in the NAHL. I’d like to move up, so any league above the NORPAC is where I want to be.
